Dam Safety Investigations

Advanced geophysical techniques for comprehensive dam safety assessment

Geophysical Investigation of Dam site in Nagaland

A geophysical survey was conducted at the Dam site in Nagaland to investigate potential weak zones, cavities, or voids within the dam structure. The study employed Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Spontaneous Potential (SP), and Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) to detect water-saturated areas within the dam body. These methods were used to identify zones of water accumulation and wetting, which could indicate structural vulnerabilities.

Geophysical Investigations at Dam site in Karnataka

Geophysical investigations were conducted at the Dam site to assess subsurface geological conditions and identify potential seepage zones. High-resolution data were acquired using Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT), and Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW). The results indicated small low-resistivity zones, suggesting the presence of water leakage within the dam. Grouting was recommended as a remedial measure to treat these leakage areas.

Geophysical investigations were carried out at the Dam site to evaluate the subsurface geological conditions and identify potential seepage zones. High-resolution data were obtained using Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT), and Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW). The results revealed small low-resistivity zones, possibly indicating weak areas within the dam body. Grouting was recommended in these identified seepage zones. Additionally, certain areas were found to contain poor-quality concrete, for which grouting was also advised to address the deteriorated sections.
